After a highly successful debut in 2020, the Pro Prep Flag Football League (PPFFL) is returning for 2021. Fully sanctioned through Football Manitoba, the PPFFL is a safe, competitive alternative to tackle football, whose gameplay is based on Football Canada’s flag rules. Other core values of the PPFFL include health and safety (following all COVID guidelines), opportunity, competition and fun.
“We all miss the game of football, and what it means for us in every sense of life. We are excited to, in association with Football Manitoba, bring back the PPFFL for year two, in order to build off the positive experiences and feedback we received following our inaugural season,” said Pro Prep Academy co-founder DJ Lalama.
“The football community in Winnipeg and rural Manitoba is a special place, and we are excited to once again facilitate and work with great people, coaches and student athletes in a safe, fun and competitive environment for all to enjoy.”
Taking place in early May (based on Manitoba Health and Safety), the PPFFL offers the most competitive gameplay available, with 60-minute games, a seven versus eight format, full media coverage and access to all game film via HUDL. There will be eight regular season games, up to three playoff games, an all-star game and year-end awards.
New for this year is a weekly live stream, which will be based on the Game of the Night. This allows friends and family of student-athletes who are unable to attend due to COVID guidelines the opportunity to follow along at home! Stats, scores, and standings will also be available through Pro Prep’s new app.
Additionally, there will be three age divisions, expanding from two in order to ensure parity and fairness. The junior varsity division is for current grade nines and tens, while varsity is for grades ten to 12 and pro is for current U SPORTS and CJFL athletes. In order to ease travel, Pro Prep Academy co-founders DJ Lalama and Andrew Harris have also booked a north and a south field location.
“We have added live streaming, multiple locations, a few rule changes and enhanced the in-game experience to bring a new standard of play for all involved in 2021,” added Harris.
“After a successful launch with our flag season after a very quick turnaround last year, we are super excited to launch this spring. The new additions for this year cater to the athletes, in order to have the most realistic football experience any league has to offer. We cannot wait to see everyone competing again this spring!”
Cost per player is $200 plus GST, with a maximum roster size of 15. Registration is open until April 21. You can sign up and find complete details by clicking here.
